Winter Picnic Inspiration

If you live in an area that has harsh winters like we do, you know how long and gloomy the days can seem. Well this year we have decided to make the most of it! Winter really can be a magical time, if you take the time to appreciate it. We love the idea of  a winter picnic! We dream of garlands made of white, fluffy marshmallows that can be roasted for s'mores and hot cocoa with with frozen whipped cream hearts, paper bags filled with freshly popped corn and pretty plates filled with little sugar cookies and of course warm fuzzy blankets to snuggle up in after ice skating on the frozen lake! As we plan a winter picnic of our own, here are some photos that might inspire you to plan one too!

DIY New Years Eve Party Horns

If you saw our post on Friday you know that we had the absolute pleasure of working Kate Landers on her gorgeous New Year's Eve photo shoot! One of the items we created for the shoot were glittered party horns! Now what New Year's party is complete with out a few festive party horns!?! We have to admit, these were so much fun to make. There are so many possibilities when it comes to embellishing them! There are also a few different ways to make them and one is so super simple, you may find yourself making a few extra!

Materials
Cards stock {not to thick or it will crease when you roll it}
{if you have a favorite patterned paper you would rather use you can glue it on to a piece of plain card stock to give it some bulk}
Cheap party horn from the dollar store {keep the noise maker at the bottom}
Embellishments {festooning, crepe paper, tinsel, ribbon, etc}
Hot glue
Scissors
OR
Pre-made glittered party horns found here
choice of embellishments

You can find really cheap paper party horns at the craft or dollar store. These are great to use as a pattern to create your party horns from. Take one of them apart and trace onto your card stock. Cut out. {If you have a piece of patterned paper that you like, {but the paper is not thick enough} you can cut out the pattern and glue it onto a piece of plain card stock, or just glue it on top of the pre-made party horn that you used to trace the patter with.

Start at the bottom {the smallest part} and roll in until the edges meet. At this point you can take hot glue and glue one edge over the other. Make sure yo hold it together for a few minutes to make sure the edges are secure. Once the horn is glued securely you can slide the noise maker on to the bottom.
You can add a little bit of hot glue around the top if you want to secure it on.

Now comes the fun...embellishing!! You can really anything to create festive party horns! For our black and white polka dot horns, we used black crepe paper. We added some hot glue around the opening of the horn and just ruffled the paper as we glues it on. Then we glued a silver satin ribbon on to hide the end of the crepe paper. At the bottom, we also created a ruffle but glued the paper in the center so it created a ruffle on the top and bottom. We tied a ribbon in the center and fluffed the paper on the top and bottom to create a fuller look! With the silver and black glittered horns we used tinsel and decorative ribbon. Hoe you will try these for your New Year's party!

New Year's Eve Photo Shoot with the Fabulous Kate Landers

Over the summer our dear friend Kate Landers asked us to collaborate with her on a couple of projects! Of course we were thrilled as Kate is just one of our favorite party stylists and people! Each and every one of her projects is filled with magic of every sort! We are always so taken with the grace and beauty that goes, not only into her work, but into who she is as a person. Everything she does is touched with timeless beauty and flawless attention to detail.
This New Year's Eve shoot, recently featured on Layla Grace, was nothing short of  fabulous! Kate perfectly executed a party with a modern twist on the mid-20th century! It featured a swoonable color palette of mint green and gold! The gorgeous paper goods were created by another one of our favorite artists and people, Loralee Lewis. We loved all of the beautiful details, like the stunning mint green tulle table cover by Sweet Tea & Linen, the festive fringe garland by The Flair Exchange, the fabulous tissue fringe lantern by The Pom Tree and of course the super fun honeycomb balls by Shop Sweet Lulu! They all combined to create such a joyful ambiance. Beautiful, shimmered cookies by Bambella Cookies and a New Year's Eve cake by Edible Details helped dress up the table in a perfectly sweet way! We love the custom crown that topped the cake and the festive party hats by The Prop Shop Boutique! We created the custom gold. glittered party horns with mint green and ivory embellishments and the oversized mint green tulle poms complete with gold shimmer! Check out all of the amazing details of this shoot created by Kate right here! We were so excited to have a part in this unbelievably magical New Year's Eve Photo Shoot! Thank you so much SWEET Kate Landers!

Winter Tree Cake Toppers

We are getting so excited about the holidays and we have some great diy projects and lots of wintery inspiration coming your way! Today we are sharing another amazing project from our diy correspondent, Katie! These wintery tree toppers are so festive and look gorgeous clustered on top of a cake! They are even perfect for just topping a single cupcake. They are surprisingly easy to create but make a huge statement!

Materials:
1. Glitter paper in color of your choice
{I recommend NOT using cardstock for this project, as I found thinner, more flexible paper works better. I used this glitter gift wrap from Paper Source}
2.  Striped paper straws
3.Large wavy circle paper punch (optional)
4. Scissors
5. Glue gun/glue

Cut straw a little more than half. You can cut the straws several different lengths to make taller or shorter trees.
  Punch out 5 circles. Cut three of them in half- you will have one extra half circle. If you do not have a punch just cut a 2/12 inch circle, waving the edges with your scissors as you go.

      1. Wrap the top of one circle at the top of your straw and glue in place, making sure to position it on an angle so that the bottom sticks out and is not glued too close to the straw.

      2. Overlap your other full circle and glue in place, again making sure the bottom sticks out to the side.

      3. Glue one of the half circles on an angle on top of the full circle.

      4. Do the same with another half circle on the other side.

      5. Glue the edges of your last half circle together, making a cone shape.

      6.  Glue on top of your straw.

      Add a glittery star or other tree topper of your choice to complete your tree!

We love Oh Joy! and Confetti System...we have been huge fans of both for quite some time! So when we heard that Oh Joy! was teaming up with Land of Nod and Confetti System with West Elm, we were super excited to say the least! The glittery bow tree toppers, ornaments and stockings from Land of Nod are so fabulous we can hardly stand it! We adore the glitzy pillows, fringed ornaments and unique garlands from West Elm. Amazing collaborations, don't you agree!
