Have you ever had a Palmier? They are light, flaky, delicious little confections! They are so cute and perfect for a Valentine's Day treat because they look like little hearts! The best thing about these sweet little French cookies is that they are so easy to make! Ingredients: store bought puff pastry and sugar! Yup, that's it!
Pre heat your oven to 400 degrees.Just take your store bought puff pastry out of the freezer and let it come almost to room temperature. (Don't let it get to soft though, make sure there is still a chill to it) When it does, unroll it onto the counter covered with about 1/4 cup of sugar. Take another 1/4 cup of sugar and sprinkle on top of the puff pastry. With a rolling pin roll the sugar into the puff pastry. You don't need to roll the pastry out much thinner than it already is, you just want to get the sugar incorporated.
Roll the top side of the pastry in about a 1/2 inch and do the same to the bottom side. Repeat again at the top and then again at the bottom until the rolls meet in the middle. Once they meet roll the one side over the other so you have one roll instead of two. Then just slice 1/2 pieces off of the roll. Sprinkle with sugar on each side and place on a parchment lined baking sheet, leaving space for them to spread as they bake. Put the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to get the pastry cold again.
Bake (right out of the refrigerator) for about 5 minutes and then flip them over with a spatula and bake for about another 5-6 minutes. They should be lightly browned and caramelized. Cool them on a rack.
Stop by tomorrow to see the sweetest Valentine's Day photo shoot with a cameo appearance from the palmier!
