Homemade Sprinkles!

A few days ago we came across a post for making your own sprinkles on Bravetart! So much fun...right!?! So of course we had to try them! Ok...we know that you can go to the store and buy sprinkles for next to nothing! But they really are so easy to make, you can make them any color you want/need to and the kids think it is the coolest thing ever! We thought that something like this would be so much fun to do if you were having a baking or cupcake decorating party (you would just have to pipe them out the night before to let them dry and then the kids could break them up and choose thier favorite colors)!
Ingredients: (We slightly adjusted the recipe from Bravetart's)
8 ounces powdered sugar
a little pinch of salt
1 egg white (or Wilton's meringue powder mixed with water: use directions on package)
1 teaspoon vanilla, almond, lemon or any other extract of your choice
food coloring of your choice

Just mix the ingredients together...you are basically making royal icing. Then you can divide your icing into portions to create your colors. Just add your food coloring in and stir! After you have all of the colors that you desire, fill individual piping bags (we used a Wiltons #3 tip). Take a baking sheet with parchment paper on it and pipe long, thin, straight lines. Repeat with each color. Make sure you allow the lines to dry for 24 hours.

When they are dry, cut them into equal pieces and you have your sprinkles!
You can use them away or store them in an airtight container!
